Former Minister of Youth and Sports, Solomon Dalung, has criticized the recent surge of defections to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), attributing the trend to political self-preservation rather than genuine concern for the public good.

Speaking on The Morning Brief on Channels Television on Tuesday, Dalung reacted to the latest high-profile defection involving Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and the collapse of the state’s Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) structure into the APC.

While Governor Oborevwori justified the move as being in the best interest of Delta State, Dalung firmly disagreed, describing it as a strategic escape route for embattled politicians.

“The wave of defections—or rather, the gale of repositioning by political elites—is more about survival, protection, and evasion of prosecution,” Dalung stated.
