Former Tottenham ace Ramon Vega believes now is the perfect time for Harry Kane and Spurs to go their separate ways after the striker broke the club’s scoring record.

Kane became the club’s top scorer of all-time with a goal in Spurs’ 1-0 win against Manchester City on Sunday, which took him clear of Jimmy Greaves.

Despite his 267 goals for Tottenham, Kane’s yet to win silverware with the club and he’s angled to leave on two occasions.

Kane has 18 months to run on his Tottenham deal and the club are understandably desperate to extend his contract.

But Vega says now could be the perfect time for Spurs to ‘cash in’ on Kane as they could rebuild the side with the money his sale would generate, while ‘allowing’ the forward to go to a club capable of winning trophies.

‘He can actually walk away from Spurs now without any question and go to a potentially better platform where they can actually win medals,’ Vega told BBC Radio5Live.

‘The player is a legend and he can do that anywhere else, but I think now he needs to win medals and then he’ll be a complete player by the end of his career.

‘If I was (Spurs charman) Daniel Levy I think it’s the best time now to sell him and really cash in and rebuild. Harry Kane is today, but we need to look for a future Harry Kane.’
