The foremost  social cultural club in Idanreland, Club 66 has r given scholarships and bursaries to many deserving students and undergraduates of Idanre .

During the event held in Ojomu Hall, Owa’s Palace, Odode-Idanre, the President General of Idanre Development Assembly and Chairman of the Club, Chief Dr. Anthony Adelanke Omolola, in his welcome speech, said the event was an important milestone in the annals of the Club and the beneficiaries as they were selected purely based on their performances and not as a result of their connections.

He urged them not to rest on their oars as those who maintained or improved on their performances would continue to enjoy the facilities while he would personally sponsor the Masters Degree programmes of all those who make First Class in the university.

Also all  those  with “A” results in the secondary school would  get his personal   university education sponsorship “without the parents paying a dime”.

He advised the students to see life beyond being farmers, flitchers of timbers or Okada commercial motorcyclists, though means of survival but enjoined them to see life in better professionals like Medical Doctors, Accountants, Lecturers, Diplomats etc.

He stated that Club 66 which “is a club of like minds without class or social distinctions on basis of age, positions or political class but common goal of having a better and greater Idanre” has  identified education as a vehicle to deliver the land from the shackles of poverty and ignorance.

Hence he said  the club started giving much of its resources to funding the awards of scholarships and bursaries awards to deserving ones.

He lauded his predecessors and members of the club  for their sacrifices  and prayed God for more  blessings for  them.

Chief Dr. Omolola, who is also the Otunba Atuluse of Idanre kingdom observed that the labour of the members had been yielding bountiful fruits as many of the beneficiaries “are now proving their mettle in various fields of human endeavors.

He urged the present beneficiaries to work more assiduously to justify the  trust and hope the community placed on them.

,He said  Club 66 Idanre looked up to welcoming them as members and eventually becoming contributors to making to the development of Idanreland.

He cautioned them to be careful of the negative influences of social media and avoid such   like plague.

He thanked Owa for gracing the occasion with his representative.

Earlier, Hon. Omolade Akinkuowo, retired Permanent Secretary and Coordinator of the club’s scholarship and bursary activities, had traced the history of the club activities on the scheme, listing amount spent to date and the total number of beneficiaries as well.

He revealed Owa as the grand patron while Chief Pius Oluwole Akinyelure is the Patron and Chief Dr. Anthony Omolola as the current Chairman .

He charged the students to challenge themselves for better results so as not to be pushed aside by those with better result

He appealed to the students and the parents to ensure they did not lower their standards so as to keep on benefitting as winners are always going to be picked solely on merits.

He lamented the lackadaisical attitudes of people who failed to obtain the form, fill and submit on time despite  being free of any charge.

Chief Bello Ilemobola, who represented His Imperial Majesty, Oba (Dr.) Frederick Adegunle Aroloye, Arubiefin IV, (JP) OFR, Owa of Idanre kingdom and paramount ruler of Idanre Land, lauded the club for their initiative and vision to help the children of the needy and commended it for its desire to make Idanre a better society.

He prayed God to grant members  traveling mercies back to their various destinations.

Hon. Yemi Olowolabi, the Secretary of the Club (66) thanked all present and begged the learners not to let themselves be swayed by inanities as he and the other members of Club 66 “are looking up to the time when some of them will become members as the club’s membership is open to all irrespective of  age,wealth.

Cheques were given to the beneficiaries. Some of the students later thanked the club on behalf of others and promised not to let the club . down but warming up to joining the club soon .
