The Blues will have the job of applauding Arne Slot’s side onto the pitch in a much-dreaded Guard of Honour ahead of kick-off.

Liverpool sealed their crown at Anfield last weekend to complete what has been a sublime first season in English football for their manager.

While the Reds can now relax a bit, there is plenty of work ahead for Enzo Maresca’s side with the battle for Champions League qualification intensifying.

His side start the day in fifth place, level on points with Nottingham Forest and Aston Villa. Three points today would go some way in ensuring they return to Europe’s premier competition next season.

Full-time in the early kick-offs

Two late goals for Manchester United, but it’s another league defeat for Ruben Amorim’s side who lose 4-3 away at Brentford.

Elsewhere, West Ham and Tottenham drew 1-1, while Alexander Isak’s late penalty secured a point for Newcastle away at Brighton. 1-1 also in that one.

Head-to-head record

Arne Slot’s side emerged with a hard-fought 2-1 win at Anfield earlier in the season, and the Reds have enjoyed a superb record against Chelsea in the league.

In fact, you would have to go back to March 2021 for the last time the Blues beat Liverpool in the Premier League.

Will Chelsea give Liverpool a guard of honour?

Today is Liverpool’s first match as Premier League champions – but will they get a guard of honour from their opponents at Stamford Bridge.

Here’s everything you need to know:

Arne Slot ‘surprised’ by Chelsea’s league form

Chelsea have endured a topsy-turvy season in the league, but few are more surprised than Arne Slot given how well Enzo Maresca’s side played when the two sides met earlier in the season.

‘We played them earlier on in the season and I’m completely surprised if I look at the gap we have between them now because at that time they were the better team on the pitch,’ Slot said in his pre-match press conference.

‘But we found a way to win and that is a quality that we haven’t needed a lot, but in that game we had to suffer more than in any other game, maybe.

‘So to be so many points ahead of them is a big compliment for everyone here at this club.’

Sanchez returns as Liverpool ring changes

So as expected, Robert Sanchez returns in goal for Chelsea. Moises Caicedo is back at right-back, meaning there is no place for Reece James who makes up the numbers on the bench.

Plenty of changes for Liverpool, as Konate, Robertson, Diaz and Mac Allister all drop to the bench. In come Quansah, Tsimikas, Elliott and Jones. No Gravenberch in the matchday squad.

Liverpool team news

Starting XI: Alisson, Alexander-Arnold, Quansah, Van Dijk, Tsimikas, Endo, Jones, Elliott, Salah, Jota, Gakpo.

Subs: Kelleher, Konate, Diaz, Szoboszlai, Nunez, Mac Allister, Chiesa, Robertson, Bradley.

Chelsea team news

Starting XI: Sanchez, Caicedo, Chalobah, Colwill, Cucurella, Lavia, Fernandez, Neto, Palmer, Madueke, Jackson

Subs: Jorgensen, Tosin, Badiashile, Acheampong, Gusto, James, Dewsbury-Hall, Sancho, George.

Team news coming up

We should have team news landing any second – will there be any surprises in store?

Early team news

Robert Sanchez and Malo Gusto missed the midweek trip to Djurgarden but both could return today.

Arne Slot, meanwhile, plans to rotate his squad in the final weeks of the campaign and give players on the fringes of the squad the chance to prove they still have a future at the club.

Harvey Elliot and Federico Chiesa are among that contingent and will be hopeful of starting in west London.
