Ally McCoist says two Chelsea players were exposed during the embarrassing defeat to London rivals Arsenal.

Arsenal clinched their biggest ever win over Chelsea on Tuesday night, thumping Mauricio Pochettino’s side 5-0 to move three points clear at the top of the Premier League.

Leandro Trossard gave Arsenal the lead after just four minutes but the carnage really began after the break, Ben White and Kai Havertz both scoring twice to humiliate Chelsea.

The Blues have endured a largely disappointing season but believed they could dent Arsenal’s title hopes after thrashing Everton 6-0 last week and pushing Manchester City hard in their FA Cup semi-final on Saturday.

But Pochettino’s men were blown away by an Arsenal side who are now three points ahead of Liverpool and four of Manchester City as they chase a first league title since 2004.

McCoist was hugely impressed by Arsenal’s performance at the Emirates and said there was a ‘mismatch’ in midfield with Declan Rice and Martin Odegaard dominating £100m Chelsea signings Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez.

‘I have to point out again, nearly a quarter of a billion pounds for Fernandez and Caicedo,’ McCoist said during TNT Sports’ coverage. ‘Look at the other two, Odegaard and Rice, it’s a mismatch.’

Liverpool and Manchester City can chip away at Arsenal’s lead when they play their games in hand, with Jurgen Klopp’s side facing Everton in the Merseyside derby on Wednesday and Pep Guardiola’s charge visiting Brighton tomorrow.

The Premier League trophy is in Man City’s hands after Arsenal and Liverpool both suffered defeats last weekend but McCoist is adamant the Gunners are ‘here to stay’ in the title race after they thrashed Chelsea.

‘Let’s be honest, we were all asking a couple of questions a week ago,’ he added. ‘It’s no disgrace getting beaten by Aston Villa, who have beaten Arsenal twice this year. They also beat Manchester City [1-0 in December].

‘You can argue that Bayern Munich have not had their finest team in years, but they’re still Bayern Munich and are a very good side.

‘They recovered very well at the weekend against Wolves, but tonight, if there were any doubts at all, they’ve put them to bed.

‘They’re here to stay and they can go on and win it. There’s no reason why they can’t go on and win it.

‘They might need one or two hiccups elsewhere, but that performance tells me that they can win it.’
