Popular Australian designing platform, Canva, is set to donate its three days proceeds to victims of the Turkey and Syria earthquakes.
The notice which was put on the Canva platform was sighted by our correspondent on Friday morning.
The notice reads, “For 72 hours, all proceeds from any elements purchased in Canva will be donated towards emergency crisis relief in Turkiye and Syria.”
The PUNCH reported that on February 6, two devastating earthquakes of 7.5 and 7.8 magnitudes respectively affected Turkey and Syria, with the death toll at over 40,000.
According to Aljazeera, the death toll from the Turkey-Syria earthquakes is nearing 44,000 from both countries.
The Turkish authorities said at least 38,044 people have been killed in the country, while the Syrian government and the United Nations say more than 5,800 people have died there.
Turkish President Recep Erdogan, described the quakes as “the disaster of the century.”
On Thursday, the United Nations appealed for more than $1bn in funds for the Turkish relief operation, barely two days after launching a $400m appeal for Syrians. Also, the World Health Organisation said it launched a flash appeal on Saturday for $42.8 million to cope with immediate health needs.
Some other international organisations that had provided relief include; the International Committee of the Red Cross and different muslim groups, among many others that have also donated to the victims.
Countries like the United Kingdom, United Arab Emirates, Saudi- Arabia and many others have also given to the affected countries.
Recently, Seren Cetin, a Turkish female boxer who won the 2022 World Boxing Council title, auctioned her championship belt to help earthquake victims in Turkey.
In a tweet, 26-year-old Cetin, said she would put her WBC Silver Bantamweight title belt on auction, hoping to sell it for at least one million Turkish liras or $53,000. She promised to give all the proceeds to Ahbap, a Turkish non-governmental organisation helping the victims.
