Burna Boy, Wizkid, other artistes with 2022 albums

2022 was a successful year for some top Nigerian artistes as they released new albums to their existing body of works and released singles.

While Burna Boy and Wizkid released their sixth and fifth albums respectively, it was a new milestone for Asake, Rema, and Naira Marley, who released their first albums.

In no particular order, these are the albums released by the aforementioned artistes in 2022:

Burna Boy – Love Damini

Damini Ogulu, popularly known as Burna Boy, released his sixth studio album, Love Damini, on July 8, 2022.

Love Damini comes after his widely acclaimed 2020 album, ‘Twice As Tall’, which in 2021 won the Grammy category of Best Global Music Album.

His latest album has also been nominated in the Best Global Music Album category for the 2023 Grammys.

Spanning 19 tracks, the album features artistes like Ed Sheeran, Victony, and Black Mambazo.

 

Wizkid – More Love, Less Ego

Ayo Balogun, popularly known as Wizkid, on November 11, 2022 released his latest 13-track album, More Love Less Ego.

In the album, Wizkid features Ayra Starr for “2 Sugar”, Skillibeng and Sheen sea for “Slip N Slide”, Naira Marley and Skepta for “Wow”, and American rapper Don Toliver for “Special”.

Wizkid had in May 2022 announced the completion of his album, where he thanked contributors to the body of work.

 

Asake – Mr Money with the Vibe

Ahmed Ololade, professionally known as Asake, arguably one of the fastest-rising Afrobeats stars, released his debut album on 7 September 2022 through Empire Distribution.

The Mr. Money With The Vibe album comprises 12 tracks produced by Magicsticks, and features two guest appearances from Russ and Burna Boy.

Top songs from the YBNL signee’s album include “Sungba”, “Joha”, “Organise”, “Peace Be Unto You”, “Terminator”, etc.

 

Rema – Raves and Roses

Divine Ikubor, popularly known as Rema, released his debut 16-track debut album, Rave and Roses on March 25, 2022.

Rema, who rose to stardom with the release of the song “Dumebi” in 2019, featured Chris Brown, Aj Tracey, 6LACK, and Yseult on the debut album.

Prior to his album, the Mavin signee had two Extended Plays, Bad Commando and Rema EP, both released in 2019.

 

Naira Marley – God’s Timing The Best

Street sensation, Azeez Fashola aka Naira Marley, on May 30 released his debut album, God’s Timing The Best.

Under 12 hours of release, GTTB had hit the no 1 spot on Apple Music’s top Nigerian albums chart.

The 14-track album is the singer’s first since his 2017 single “Issa Goal” pushed him to the limelight. Naira Marley has two EPs, Lord of Lamba and Gotta Dance.
