Bruno Fernandes was thrilled to have Jadon Sancho back in the fold as Manchester United celebrated reaching the Carabao Cup final.

United overcame Nottingham Forest 5-0 on aggregate and Sancho added to the feelgood factor at Old Trafford in the second leg, receiving a superb reception as he made his first appearance since October.

Boss Erik ten Hag last month said the winger was ‘not in the right mental status or fitness state’ and sent Sancho to the Netherlands for an individual fitness programme.

‘As I said to him, it’s great to have him back because we know he is a massive solution for us,’ Fernandes said of Sancho. ‘We all know the capacity he has. He hasn’t expressed it at his best yet but he’s been at some moments really good.’

Ten Hag also suggested United’s good form as a team will make it easier for Sancho to make an impact.

‘We are playing more in the opponent’s half and his capabilities are coming more to the fore [then]. He can act on them more and have more touches on the ball.’
