Bolanle Bolawole, born in 1957, is one of Nigeria’s most respected voices in journalism and public affairs. He holds both a B.A. and an M.Sc., graduating from the University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University) in 1982 and the University of Ibadan in 1985.
His professional journey began at Sketch newspapers (1985–1987), before moving to Sunday Punch, where he served in various capacities. Reporter, Features Editor, and Acting Deputy Editor between 1987 and 1992. His rise in the profession was marked by a series of leadership roles at The Punch, where he became Editor, Deputy Editor-in-Chief, and Chairman of the Editorial Board. He later served as Managing Director/Editor-in-Chief of the Westerner news magazine. Today, he is the Managing Director of Turning Point Nigeria Publishers Limited.
Beyond newsroom leadership, Bolawole has distinguished himself as a prolific columnist and commentator. His widely read columns On the Lord’s Day in the Sunday Tribune and Treasures in the New Telegraph are known for incisive political analysis, reflections on governance, and thought-provoking social commentary. He is also a sought-after public affairs analyst on radio and television, where his voice continues to influence national discourse.
Over the decades, Bolawole has been at the forefront of advocating for democracy, accountability, and media freedom in Nigeria. His work reflects the values enshrined in Sections 22 and 39 of the 1999 Nigerian Constitution, championing freedom of expression and the press. He has contributed to exposing corruption, defending human rights, and promoting transparency through fearless reporting and analysis.
In line with Nigeria’s vibrant media tradition, Bolawole has supported initiatives to strengthen press independence, including advocating for the Freedom of Information Act and reforms in media regulation. He has consistently stood with journalists facing censorship or harassment, embodying the resilience and commitment required to keep the press free and credible.
