In the days that followed, government agencies worked tirelessly to restore calm and ensure that affected families received assistance. Two years later, Bodija resurfaced in public discourse when former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose, speaking on a live television programme, claimed that Governor Makinde had approached the federal government for support following the explosion and received ₦50 billion. The governor’s office initially refuted the claim, urging evidence be presented. Fayose later produced documentation, prompting the Oyo State Government to clarify that financial support had indeed been received, though the amount cited was ₦30 billion. Officials further explained that the funds were secured in a bank account and had not yet been deployed.
The disclosure sparked broader public discussion about transparency, accountability, and communication in governance. Questions arose regarding why citizens had not been informed earlier, especially considering the gravity of the Bodija incident. While the government maintained that the funds were preserved for future disaster management initiatives, the episode highlighted the critical role of timely and clear communication in sustaining public trust.
