Benue govt, FG to partner in building homes to settle displaced indigenes

Benue State Governor, Rev Fr Hyacinth Alia has said his administration is working in partnership with the Federal Government to build resettlement homes for Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs, in the state to enable them return to their ancestral homes.

Governor Alia disclosed this during a meeting with the Tiv Area Traditional Council,TATC in Gboko.

He said the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management in the state was working with the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation to provide necessary facilities for the victims.

Alia, who was represented by the Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management in the state, Aondowase Kunde, explained that he has engaged the military authority to establish military bases in the senatorial districts in the state to improve internal security.

Kunde admonished the TATC to remain supportive of the efforts of the government and encourage its subjects to embrace the initiative.

He further said schools and hospitals will be constructed within the affected communities to reduce out-of-school children and improve access to Medicare by the IDPs.

In his remark, the Tor Tiv, His Royal Majesty, Prof James Ayatse, lauded the governor for his concern to improve the welfare of victims of herdsmen attack.

Prof Ayatse noted that past administrations paid lip service to security challenges that bedevilled Tiv Nation and other parts of the state.

He expressed confidence in President Bola Tinubu and Governor Alia’s efforts towards mitigating the sufferings of the affected persons.
