Bayern Munich have been linked with a shock move for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as interim manager, if they choose to get rid of Thomas Tuchel before the end of the season.

Tuchel is under a lot of pressure in Bavaria after three straight defeats, beaten by Bayer Leverkusen, Lazio and Bochum.

The Champions League loss to the Italian side can be overcome in the second leg of their last 16 tie, but the back-to-back Bundesliga defeats could prove very costly in Bayern’s title chase.

Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg reports that the club intend to keep hold of Tuchel at least until the end of the season but are making plans to go down other routes if they feel they have to.

The club hierarchy are hoping Tuchel will turn things around immediately but there are only so many defeats any manager can survive at the German giants, and it is not that many more than three on the spin.

The report states that Solskjaer is being considered as an option to take over as interim manager if they need someone to fill a void until the end of the season.

Bayern’s sporting director Christoph Freund is believed to have Solskjaer on his radar.

However, he is not being chased as a key target to take the role on a permanent basis, with Zinedine Zidane emerging as a much more prominent choice to take the job if Tuchel is dismissed.

The iconic Frenchman has still only taken charge of Real Madrid in his managerial career so far, with two stints from 2016-18 and 2019-21.

Those two spells yielded two La Liga titles and three Champions League, but while he has been linked with the likes of Manchester United, PSG and France since leaving the Spanish capital, he has not been tempted into taking a job.

Tuchel will try and stop the rot on Saturday when Bayern host RB Leipzig in the Bundesliga, before going to Freiburg a week later.

Then comes the crunch second leg in the Champions League against Lazio on 5 March as they battle for a place in the quarter-finals.
