Also expected later in the day is Prince Wole Adebayo of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) to pronounce on whether or not he would support South West blueprints on these priorities as enunciated in the OneBloc document submitted by the Development Agenda for Western Nigeria (DAWN) Commission, and duly approved by the 6 governments of Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Oshun, Ondo and Ekiti, which established DAWN ten years ago as their technocratic agency for security and integrated development.

Yesterday, the Presidential candidates of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), Alhaji Kolawole Abiola, and Comrade Omoyele Sowore, Presidential Candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) dialogued with leading South West civil society organisations, seasoned professionals, religious leaders, Farmers Groups, Hunters Groups, Town Development Unions, the Academia, the Chambers of Commerce and Diaspora associations.

The PRP presidential candidate, Alhaji Kola Abiola, stated that if elected, his administration would practice true federalism with the local governments granted full autonomy for meaningful development at the grassroots but that he will clamp down hard on secession agitators, same as he opposes State Police because States are currently unable to pay salaries and can thereföre not sustain the additional burden of State Police.

The PRP flag bearer however promised his govermnent would reintroduce community-based policing while the Nigeria Police Force would be better funded, equipped and motivated. He promised allowances for teachers in training, prioritizing technical and vocational training for the unemployed and eliminating indiscriminate taxation for business and market women.

When Comrade Omoycle Sowore, Presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) faced the gathering, he declared that he should henceforth be addressed as “Babayele” Sowore, because he has paid his dues and he is now an elder in the struggle for a better Nigeria.

Cotnrade Sowore fully supported the DAWN blueprint for South West integrated security and developrnent, which he declared other regions of Nigeria are fully entitled to demand in the spirit of true federalistn as pronlised by the Nigerian constitution.

I-le advocated improved intelligence gathering by Amotekun, warning against the outfit becoming a clone of existing security outfits which are basically engaged in protection of governments and the elite. Sowore pointed out that if security improves in the country, many talented and skilled citizens stranded in the Diaspora would return home to contribute to national development.

The Presidential Candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Alhaji Rabiu Kwankwaso is scheduled for Monday, 23 rd January 2023.
