ASUU suspends strike in Yobe State University

The Yobe State University Chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has suspended its Industrial Strike Action embarked upon on July 11, 2025.
The Chairman of the branch, Ahmed Karage, made this announcement in a statement on Tuesday.

Karage stated that the union has reached a Memorandum of Understanding, MoU, with the Yobe State Government to address the other remaining demands.

“Following the Memoranda of Understanding, the President of ASUU has granted approval to call off the strike action,” the statement read.

It, therefore, urged members of the branch to resume work with immediate effect.

Newspot reports that the union had declared an indefinite strike, asking the State Government to implement the N70,000 minimum wage of 2024 consequential adjustment.

It also demanded appropriate promotion placements and pay arrears of the minimum wage of 2019 consequential adjustment.

The union listed other demands to include payment of a thirty-five percent and twenty-five percent salary award, consequential adjustment from January 2023 to date, postgraduate facilitation allowances for staff, among others.
“After several months of engagements, formal communications, and appeals to relevant government authorities, we regret to inform you that the academic staff under the umbrella of ASUU has been compelled to embark on indefinite industrial action due to the government’s failure to meet our demands presented,” it had said.
