Assembly Polls: Bayelsa governor condemns violence in Jonathan’s LGA

Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri has expressed anger over violence that took place while voters were in the queue to cast their votes on Saturday.

He expressed sadness that the violence took place at four wards of Constituency two in Ogbia Local Government Council of Bayelsa State leading to the destruction of ballot materials meant for today’s exercise.

Former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan hails from Ogbia Local Government Council of Bayelsa State.

Newspot gathered that election materials detailed for Ogbia wards 2, 3, 4 and 5 in the House of Assembly election in the state were reportedly carted away by the armed men and hoodlums in the early hours of Saturday as voters who were ready to cast vote expressed shocks at the impunity of the hoodlums.

Unconfirmed reports said some materials were set ablaze before carting away with materials they felt were useful to them.

The incident was confirmed by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Daniel Alabrah, but didn’t disclose which party the invading thugs were loyal to, saying it’s left for the Police to reveal their sponsors.

While he condemned the development, Diri called on the Commissioner of Police to arrest the perpetrators and ensure that anyone found culpable is brought to book.
