Army brainstorm to wipe out criminals, bandits as CMI charges troops to be professional

As part of efforts to rid the country of bandits and criminal attacks, officers of the Nigerian Army Headquarters 82 Division, Enugu, on Friday, brainstormed on emergent security issues, threats and how best personnel could respond to them.

While delivering the lecture, Chief of Military Intelligence (Army), Major General Thompson Bobby Ugiagbe, stated that the Army has a sacred obligation to ensure that personnel perform their duties within the ambit of the law.

This was said in a statement by Lieutenant Colonel Jonah Unuakhalu, Acting Deputy Director, 82 Division.

It stressed the need for troops to be loyal and disciplined and ensure personnel, material and information security, adding that if compromised, it could jeopardize national security.

He charged the officers and soldiers to show a high level of discipline and professionalism in their daily operational tasks and engagements.

“To this end all personnel must take security awareness seriously,” it said.

He also pointed out the need for compliance with extant regulations for acceptable use of social media in order not to run fowl of the provisions of the Armed Forces Policy on Abuse of Social Media.

In his welcome address, the General Officer Commanding 82 Division, Nigerian Army, Major General Hassan Taiwo Dada, stated that it is expedient to brainstorm from time to time to share updates on emerging security threats and strategies to counter such threats.

The GOC further emphasized the Nigerian Army’s commitment to training personnel to improve operational effectiveness in line with international best practices. He added that the significant successes recorded by the Division were attributable to adequate training.

He also advised troops to be vigilant in observing and identifying security threats in their respective areas of responsibility and promptly responsive to such threats.

This, he said, will proactively prevent security breaches. General Dada commended the CMI (A) for dedicating time to deliver the lecture to the troops of the Division.
