In the letter to the Chairman of the party in Oke Aro/Uro 11 Ward 9, Akure Local Government Area of the state on Monday, Ayeni said the party lacked the capacity to win elections.

Newspot recalls that the governorship candidate of NNPP in the November 16, 2024 election, Olugbenga Edema, on Sunday resigned from the party alleging lack of sincerity in winning elections.

Ayeni, who first won the governorship ticket of the party for the 2024 poll before withdrawing from the race, alleged that the party had been sold out.”

“No serious minded politician can successfully thrive in your party which is filled with thorns and hungry pests even when they are chances of thriving.

“It is only in your party I see candidate being disowned by the leadership of the party to celebrate opponents.

“It is however apposite to know that I do not belong to the mediocre, myopic and eccentric school of thought.

“On the premise of the above, I, therefore, cease to be a member of the New Nigeria People’s Party with immediate effect,” he said.

Newspot reports that Ayeni was the Campaign Director-General of the NNPP in the 2024 Governorship Election in the state.

Responding to the resignation, the state Chairman of NNPP, Peter Olagookun, said that Ayeni’s resignation from the party was not a surprise, saying he had been suspended from the party.
