Manchester United legend Andy Cole fears Wout Weghorst would flop at Old Trafford and has questioned Chelsea’s deal for Joao Felix.

Burnley striker Weghorst has emerged as a shock target for Premier League giants United, with Erik ten Hag keen to bring his fellow Dutchman to the club.

The Netherlands international is currently on loan at Turkish side Besiktas, having struggled at Burnley, scoring just two goals in 20 games for the Clarets.

Weghorst, 30, is desperate to join Manchester United but Cole does not have much hope if the ‘surprising’ deal goes through

‘Wow! When I heard about Weghorst I was as surprised as anybody,’ Cole, who won five Premier League titles at Old Trafford, told Casinos En Ligne.

‘I know he got a couple of goals in the World Cup and he’s on loan in Turkey now but he had an absolutely terrible time at Burnley.

‘You can only say if he had such a tough time at Burnley what can we really expect if he comes to Manchester United?’

Cole, who is the fourth-highest goalscorer in Premier League history, has also delivered his verdict on Chelsea’s loan move for Portugal forward Felix.

Chelsea are close to signing Felix on a six-month loan deal from Atletico Madrid and will reportedly pay the Spanish club more than £10m to bring him to Stamford Bridge.

‘Felix is undoubtedly a class player but if you’re talking about £10m for a loan fee you might as well try to get the deal done on a permanent basis if you fancy him,’ Cole added.

‘I think he’ll create a lot of goals but will he score a lot, Erling Haaland style? No. The two are totally different players.’

Chelsea have already signed three players in January – Benoit Badiashile, Andrey Santos and David Datro Fofana – having spent more than £250m on new signings last summer.

Manchester United, meanwhile, made former England goalkeeper Jack Butland their first signing of the window.
