Air Astana Group has signed a firm order with aircraft manufacturer Airbus for 25 A320neo family aircraft, marking the largest direct aircraft order in the airline group’s history.
The deal includes five A320neo aircraft and twenty A321neo aircraft, which will be deployed across both Air Astana, the group’s full-service carrier, and its low-cost subsidiary FlyArystan.
The new aircraft acquisition forms part of the airline’s broader fleet expansion and modernization strategy, aimed at improving operational efficiency, supporting passenger growth, and enhancing fuel efficiency across its operations.
According to the airline, the order also carries symbolic significance as it comes 20 years after Air Astana introduced its first Airbus A320 aircraft into service in 2006.
Chief Executive Officer of Air Astana, Peter Foster, said the purchase underscores the company’s long-term commitment to maintaining high operational standards.
He noted that the airline has enjoyed years of successful operations with the Airbus A320neo family, particularly the A321LR, which has proven effective for longer regional routes.
Foster said the new aircraft will help the airline sustain growth while maintaining profitability and service quality.
“We are confident that the new fleet will continue to support sustainable growth and reinforce our reputation for operational efficiency and service excellence,” he said.
Airbus executives also welcomed the deal, describing it as further validation of the aircraft family’s strong market appeal.
Benoît de Saint-Exupéry, Executive Vice President of Sales for Airbus’ commercial aircraft business, said the agreement highlights the popularity of the A320neo family in fast-growing aviation markets.
He noted that the aircraft offers airlines improved economics, better fuel efficiency, and reduced emissions compared with previous generation narrow-body aircraft.
The A320neo family, which includes the A320neo and the larger A321neo, is among the most widely ordered single-aisle aircraft programs globally due to its fuel efficiency, reduced carbon emissions, and lower operating costs.
Industry analysts say the new order signals Air Astana Group’s confidence in continued passenger demand growth across Central Asia and surrounding markets, where aviation demand has expanded rapidly in recent years.
With the new aircraft expected to join its fleet in phases, the airline group aims to strengthen its regional connectivity and expand its footprint across international routes.
