Accept Your Lot In Good Faith – Oloyede

A call has gone to the staff of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board(JAMB) to accept whatever befalls them in good faith and should, therefore, shorn themselves of those unwholesome thoughts that are capable of distancing them from God’s divine presence.

Prof. Oloyede gave this counsel on Sunday, 26th November, 2023, at a send-off party organised for JAMB retirees, members of the academia, who recently concluded their sabbatical leave with the Board, and newly-promoted members of Nigeria Police and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps(NSCDC), who were decorated with their new ranks.

The Registrar, in a thought-provoking counsel, said God “is not evil but an embodiment of all that is good,” and that man’s journey in this world had being cleverly crafted for his overall development.

He averred that any misfortune that befalls a man is not by accident but is part of God’s divine plan and, as such, it is a misplaced conception to ascribe evil to Him or arrogate to oneself any feat or accomplishment as all things are done in line with Divine Will.

He said, “Among those we have celebrated today are 21 NSCDC personnel, seven police officers, if you ask them why are they being celebrated they are likely to tell you they work hard and they were promoted but if any evil were to happen to them they will tell you it’s from God.”Continuing, he said, “We blame God for anything we don’t like. We do no evil as it’s only God, in our own estimation, who has caused anything we do not like to happen.

This should not be so.””Celebrations and elevations are caused by God and most of the time when the reverse happened to us, more often than not, we are the cause but we might not know and we ascribe it to God. At times we are not the cause, as the ‘misfortune’ is good for us but we do not realise this for what might seems to us as evil is good only we do not realise it.”

The Registrar thanked the retirees, otherwise called ‘Senior Citizens’ for their services to the Board and pray for God to preserve their lives as many did not complete the journey for they exited the service either on account of ill health, death or misconduct that might have truncated their otherwise glorious exit.

In his remarks on behalf of the retirees, the former Director, Lafia Zonal Office, Dr. Mahmuda Adamu Mahmoud, thanked the Registrar for the great honour done to them as well as organising a befitting retirement package and send-off event for them. He urged the Registrar to consider them for relevant Board’s engagements such as UTME monitoring and supervision stating that they might be retired but are not tired to take on those responsibilities if invited.
