Ijebu Son, Community Leader, and Devoted Subject of the Crown

With profound sorrow and a heart weighed down by grief, I join the entire Ijebu nation and the people of Nigeria in mourning the passing of our revered monarch,
His Royal Majesty, Oba (Dr.) Sikiru Kayode Adetona, CFR, Ogbagba II, the Awujale and Paramount Ruler of Ijebuland.

The news of his transition struck like a thunderclap—leaving behind a silence so deep, it feels as though even the wind mourns with us. Our father, our symbol of unity, the embodiment of wisdom, tradition, and integrity, has joined the ancestors. The throne that once radiated with the light of his presence now sits in solemn dignity.

Kabiyesi was far more than a king; he was the very soul of Ijebuland. For over six decades, he reigned with uncommon grace, foresight, and courage. He was a beacon of justice and truth, a pillar of strength in turbulent times, and a mentor to many of us who were privileged to learn from his example. Through his leadership, Ijebu stood proud—united, progressive, and deeply rooted in its heritage.

I am personally devastated. To me, Oba Adetona was not just a monarch; he was a father figure, a guiding light, and a reservoir of timeless wisdom. His encouragement, his candor, and his calm amidst storms—these shall forever echo in my heart.

As we bid farewell to this giant of history, let us remember the values he upheld and lived by: dignity, service, accountability, and deep love for the people. Let us carry forward his legacy with the pride and honor befitting his name.

To the royal family, the Council of Chiefs, and all sons and daughters of Ijebuland, I extend my deepest condolences. May we find strength in the unity Kabiyesi nurtured and the enduring legacy he leaves behind.

May the soul of our beloved Awujale rest in eternal peace—cradled in the arms of Olodumare and surrounded by the honor he so richly deserves.

Adieu, Kabiyesi.
O dí gbà, O dí arìnàko.
Ìbí tí ẹ̀ ti ń lọ, a ó pàdé.
Sùn ré o, Ogbagba II.
