A Federal High Court sitting in Katsina has sentenced a woman, Hauwa’u Mukhtar, to death by hanging after finding her guilty of terrorism-related offences involving the supply of ammunition to suspected bandit networks.

The court held that the prosecution proved beyond reasonable doubt that the defendant participated in conspiracy to commit terrorism and aiding and abetting terrorist activities.

According to court records, Mukhtar was arrested on September 16, 2023, by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) at Jibia Motor Park in Katsina State while allegedly attempting to transport 438 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition to a suspected bandit leader operating along the Zamfara axis.

Delivering judgment, Justice A. B. Bawale held that evidence presented by the prosecution, including witness testimonies and recovered exhibits, clearly established the defendant’s culpability.

The judge ruled that the offences were proven beyond reasonable doubt and convicted her on both counts.

Mukhtar was thereafter sentenced to death by hanging, in accordance with provisions of the Terrorism (Prevention and Prohibition) Act 2022 as applied by the court.

The judgment is among a series of recent terrorism-related convictions secured by security agencies as authorities intensify efforts to disrupt bandit supply chains and support networks across the North-West.

Only days earlier, another Federal High Court in Abuja had sentenced multiple defendants to death and long prison terms for roles linked to terror attacks and arms trafficking, underscoring a wider crackdown on terrorism financing and logistics support.
