A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has reportedly granted bail to former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, in the sum of ₦100 million with one surety in like sum.
According to a report by News Point Nigeria, Justice Joyce Abdulmalik gave the ruling on Monday, May 18, 2026, and attached several conditions to the bail granted to the former governor.
The court reportedly ordered that the surety must reside in either Maitama or Asokoro in Abuja and must deposit the original Certificate of Occupancy of a landed property with the court registry.
The surety is also required to be a federal civil servant not below Grade Level 17 and must provide proof of salary payment for at least three months. The salary record must be supported by a letter from a bank manager within the court’s jurisdiction.
Justice Abdulmalik further directed the surety to swear to an affidavit of means, enter into a bail bond and submit a recent passport photograph to the court registry.
As part of the conditions, El-Rufai was ordered to deposit all valid international passports with the court registry pending the determination of the case.
The court also directed that the surety must submit a verification letter from his or her immediate department, as well as a tax clearance certificate covering the last six months.
In another condition, the former governor was ordered to report to the headquarters of the Department of State Services every last Friday of the month by 10 a.m. to sign an attendance register.
The judge warned that failure to comply with the bail conditions would lead to automatic revocation of the bail.
The court also reportedly directed El-Rufai to submit a letter of attestation from the Chairman of the Kaduna Traditional Council.
The ruling comes amid growing public attention on the former Kaduna governor, whose recent legal and political troubles have continued to generate debate across the country.
