Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, PhD, has approved the appointment of Mr. Uwem Ekanem as Special Adviser to the Governor on Aviation and Airport Development.
The appointment was announced on Monday by the Secretary to the State Government, Prince Enobong Uwah, in a release dated May 4, 2026.
According to the release, Ekanem’s appointment takes effect from May 4, 2026, following the creation of the Ministry of Aviation and Airport Development by the state government.
Ekanem will oversee the Ministry of Aviation and Airport Development pending the appointment of a substantive commissioner.
His appointment is expected to support the administration’s ongoing efforts to strengthen aviation planning, airport management, and related infrastructure development in the state.
Akwa Ibom has continued to position aviation as a key part of its economic development agenda, with Victor Attah International Airport remaining central to the state’s transport and investment strategy.
The release congratulated the appointee and confirmed that he would assume responsibility for the aviation and airport development portfolio with immediate effect.
