From Dispatch Room
Governor Ademola Adeleke has officially launched the Osun State Security Trust Fund, committing an initial ₦300 million to support the initiative aimed at strengthening security infrastructure across the state.
Speaking at the launch event held at the WOCDIF Event and Conference Centre in Osogbo, the governor described the fund as a necessary intervention in response to evolving security challenges and limited public financing. He noted that the initiative is structured as a public-private partnership designed to bridge funding gaps and enhance the operational capacity of security agencies.
Governor Adeleke explained that the trust fund would support the establishment of a modern security framework, including a central Situation Room equipped with real-time CCTV surveillance, as well as the procurement of operational tools and equipment for security services.
He also disclosed that his administration had revived the initiative after it was previously abandoned, stressing that similar models have proven effective in other Nigerian states. The governor emphasised that the fund is not politically motivated but is intended to safeguard lives and property.
Calling for broad-based participation, Adeleke invited private sector players, financial institutions, development partners, and indigenes of the state to contribute to the fund. He assured stakeholders that the trust fund would be managed with transparency, accountability, and strict adherence to due process.
The governor further commended security agencies for their efforts in maintaining peace in the state and acknowledged the role of traditional rulers and community leaders in supporting grassroots security.
As part of ongoing efforts, he revealed that the government has refurbished armoured personnel carriers and acquired additional operational vehicles, which will soon be deployed to security agencies.
