The Osun State chapter of the Accord Party has formally petitioned the police over what it described as “threatening and inflammatory” statements allegedly made by Hon. Wole Oke in a viral video circulating online.

In a petition addressed to the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone XI Headquarters in Osogbo, and copied to the Inspector-General of Police, the party called for an immediate investigation into the remarks attributed to the federal lawmaker.

The petition, filed through ASA Attorneys on behalf of the state chairman of the Accord Party, characterized the alleged comments as “menacing, inflammatory and capable of inciting violence.” Hon. Oke, who represents Obokun/Oriade Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives and serves as Director-General of the Osun APC Governorship Campaign, was alleged to have warned that individuals who do not politically align with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s camp should be prepared to “face dire consequences.”

According to the petitioners, such a statement constitutes a direct threat to the lives, safety, and civil liberties of citizens in Osun State, particularly members and supporters of opposition parties. They argued that the alleged remarks could heighten political tension and undermine constitutionally guaranteed rights, including freedom of association and political participation under Nigeria’s 1999 Constitution.

The Accord Party further noted that the viral video has already sparked fear and anxiety among its members and residents across the state, raising concerns about potential intimidation in the political space.

In its demands, the party urged the police to conduct a thorough, transparent, and impartial investigation into the matter. It specifically called for the invitation and interrogation of the lawmaker, as well as the initiation of criminal proceedings if a prima facie case of intimidation or conduct likely to cause a breach of peace is established.

The petition also appealed for increased security presence across Osun State to ensure that citizens and political actors can freely exercise their rights without fear of harassment or violence.

Emphasizing the need to safeguard democratic norms, the party stated that the petition was necessary to prevent any form of political intimidation and to uphold the integrity of the state’s political environment.

The petition was also copied to the Speaker of the House of Representatives and the Inspector-General of Police in Abuja.

It was signed by Pastor Victor Akande, Chairman of the Accord Party in Osun State, and dated April 10, 2026
