Former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Lasun Yussuff, has concluded his senatorial consultation tour across Osun Central with a strong endorsement from party leaders in Ila-Orangun.
The final leg of the tour drew significant political attention as leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ila-Orangun unanimously declared their support for Yussuff’s senatorial ambition, even before his arrival. According to party officials, the decision followed a prior meeting where consensus was reached on backing his candidacy.
Speaking at the event, Otunba Tunde Badmus, Special Adviser on Political Matters and a prominent member of Yussuff’s political team, described the former lawmaker as a tested and trusted leader with a proven track record in public service. He highlighted Yussuff’s legislative experience and international exposure, including his role at the ECOWAS Parliament, noting that his network and influence would benefit Osun State.
In his remarks, Yussuff expressed appreciation for the warm reception and endorsement, pledging to justify the confidence reposed in him. He reiterated his commitment to strengthening the PDP and promoting unity within the party ahead of future elections.
The former Deputy Speaker also commended the administration of Ademola Adeleke, describing it as impactful and people-oriented. He called for collective efforts to ensure the governor’s re-election, emphasizing the need for continuity in governance.
Declaring his senatorial ambition, Yussuff assured party leaders and supporters that he would deliver effective representation anchored on accessibility, responsiveness, and accountability. He stressed the importance of maintaining a functional constituency office and staying connected to the needs of the people.
Reacting to the development, Hon. Afolayan, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor, expressed confidence in Yussuff’s candidacy and urged him to remain focused despite potential political challenges. He also called for unity among party aspirants.
Other stakeholders, including Hon. Demola Durosomo and elder statesman Alhaji Ganiyu Olaitan, commended Yussuff’s political pedigree and longstanding relationship with the party. They encouraged him to build on existing standards of representation and maintain close ties with the people of Ila-Orangun.
In a closing remark, Hon. Fatai Durotoye, speaking on behalf of the party leadership, reaffirmed the collective endorsement and support of the Ila-Orangun PDP structure for Yussuff’s senatorial bid.
The consultation tour, which spanned multiple local governments across Osun Central, is seen as a strategic step in consolidating political support ahead of the senatorial race.
