Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has praised the Ijesha people for their enduring contributions to development across local, national, and global platforms, describing the unveiling of the Ijesha Hall of Fame as a landmark initiative.

The governor made the remarks at the event hosted by the Owa Obokun of Ijeshaland, Oba Adesuyi Haastrup, noting that the initiative reflects forward-thinking leadership and a commitment to preserving the legacy of distinguished sons and daughters of the region.

Governor Adeleke commended the monarch as a “torchbearer of modernity and innovation in traditional governance,” adding that the royal institution under his leadership represents a strong partner in driving economic, social, and political development in Ijeshaland and Osun State at large.

Highlighting his administration’s efforts, the governor said significant strides have been made in advancing infrastructure and education in the area, particularly through the development of University of Ilesa. He noted that the institution now has 95 accredited courses and is undergoing infrastructure upgrades, while major road projects, including the Palace–Brewery Junction dual carriageway, are nearing completion.

Adeleke also urged Ijesha indigenes to support ongoing development initiatives, particularly the expansion of facilities and academic capacity at the university, stressing the importance of collective responsibility in sustaining progress.

Earlier, the Owa Obokun issued a strong warning against political violence ahead of upcoming elections, expressing concern over recent incidents of unrest in Ijeshaland. The monarch declared that the palace would no longer tolerate acts of violence and would enforce both traditional and legal sanctions against offenders.

“We will apply the law and tradition to punish sponsors of political violence. Enough is enough,” the royal father stated, warning that individuals involved in such acts, along with their families, could face banishment and ostracisation from the community.

The monarch further called on political leaders to caution their supporters and maintain peace, emphasizing the need to protect lives and preserve the stability of the region.

The Ijesha Hall of Fame, an initiative of the Owa’s palace, is designed to honour and immortalize individuals who have made significant contributions to the development of Ijeshaland.
