You and Your Governor
If one were to give Governor Umo Bassey Eno another name, it would simply be “Father of Compassion.” It takes uncommon empathy for a leader to respond personally and decisively to the suffering of citizens. That compassion was once again demonstrated in Eket Local Government Area, where a family that lost a 15-room residential building to a fire outbreak received not sympathy alone, but a newly constructed 3-bedroom bungalow alongside seven self-contained apartments.
Nine months after the devastating incident at Atabong, Governor Eno formally handed over the completed buildings to the affected family on Friday, February 6, 2026, restoring dignity and stability where tragedy once stood.

Governor Eno, The Father of Compassion
Since assuming office on May 29, 2023, Governor Eno has repeatedly demonstrated a leadership style anchored on empathy and direct human impact.
The Atabong intervention was not an isolated act. In a previous case, when a viral video showed a 14-year-old orphan, Abraham Akaninyene, studying under a streetlight due to lack of electricity at home, the Governor immediately ordered the installation of solar-powered lighting and renovation of the boy’s late father’s house in Idu, Uruan Local Government Area.
Similarly, on September 5, 2024, he handed over a fully furnished two-bedroom bungalow to the family of Miss Arit Abam, an NYSC member who went viral after returning to her father’s thatched house to present her certificate.
In each instance, prior personal relationships were absent. The common thread was responsiveness.
Strengthening Private Sector Partnerships
Governor Eno reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to private-sector collaboration during the commissioning of Zenith Bank’s new branch in Uyo.
Describing the bank as reputable for integrity and excellence, he noted his longstanding business relationship with the institution during his time leading Royalty Hotels before entering public service. He expressed optimism that Zenith Bank would extend similar support to Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises in Akwa Ibom State.
Zenith Bank’s Group Managing Director and CEO, Dame Dr. Adaora Umeoji, described the commissioning as a milestone event, commending the state government for fostering a conducive business environment. She assured continued partnership and emphasized support for women-owned enterprises and MSMEs.
On GIFA Anniversary and Rev. Yinka Yusuf’s Apology
At the February Government House Covenant Service, Governor Eno appealed to citizens to accept the apology tendered by Rev. Yinka Yusuf following controversial remarks about the state.
The Governor disclosed that he had directed the State Attorney General to halt legal proceedings, emphasizing reconciliation and hospitality as defining attributes of Akwa Ibom people.
He also announced the second anniversary of the Golden Initiative For All (GIFA), scheduled for February 20, 2026, at Ibom Hall, Uyo, coinciding with the posthumous birthday of his late wife.
Governor Umo Eno’s week reflected a blend of compassion-driven intervention, institutional strengthening, and reconciliation-focused leadership.
This has been “You and Your Governor.”
