SOKOTO, Nigeria — The Sokoto State Government on Tuesday formally received the report of the Judicial Commission of Inquiry established to investigate the activities of the immediate past administration of former Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal.

Governor Ahmed Aliyu, who received the report on behalf of the state government, commended the commission for what he described as its diligent, impartial, and evidence-based approach.

He clarified that the establishment of the commission was not driven by vendetta or political retaliation.
“The purpose of this commission has always been to promote accountability, reinforce good governance, and ensure that every public office holder understands the need for transparency in managing state resources,” Governor Aliyu stated.
The governor assured citizens that the administration would carefully review the report and its recommendations and act strictly within the bounds of the law.
“We will use the findings to strengthen fiscal discipline, reform public financial processes, and prevent future mismanagement,” he added.
White Paper Committee Announced
To ensure a structured and transparent response, Governor Aliyu announced the formation of a White Paper Committee, made up of individuals of proven integrity. The committee will examine the commission’s findings in detail and prepare a white paper outlining the government’s official position on each recommendation.
The white paper is expected to serve as a public record of the state’s response and proposed corrective measures.
According to the governor, the submission of the report and the forthcoming white paper represent important milestones in strengthening accountability and good governance in Sokoto State.
₦117 Billion Alleged Mismanagement
Speaking after the handover, the Chairman of the Commission, Justice Mu’azu Pindiga, said the panel carried out its mandate with professionalism and strict adherence to due process.
“We conducted thorough investigations, verified documents, and heard testimonies from officials and stakeholders to ensure that our findings were fair, accurate, and evidence-based,” Justice Pindiga explained.
He disclosed that the commission uncovered allegations of financial mismanagement amounting to over ₦117 billion during the eight-year tenure of the former administration.
The report highlighted:
- Alleged breaches of financial regulations
- Questionable contract awards
- Non-compliance with due process in public expenditure
- Improper sales of government assets
- Other financial irregularities
Justice Pindiga emphasized that the commission’s mandate was to ensure clarity and accountability rather than to target any individual politically.
The commission’s work, which began nearly three years ago, included public hearings and a comprehensive review of official records, contracts, and public accounts related to the Tambuwal administration.

The Sokoto State Government is expected to release the white paper after the committee completes its review.
