The Federal Government of Nigeria has confirmed a strengthening of security cooperation with the United States, following coordinated intelligence-led operations that have resulted in precision strikes against identified terrorist targets in parts of the country, particularly in the North West.
In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Abuja, the government said the deepening partnership reflects ongoing efforts to confront terrorism and violent extremism through structured intelligence sharing and strategic coordination with international partners.
According to the ministry, the intelligence-backed operations are carried out in line with international law and respect for Nigeria’s sovereignty, while prioritizing the protection of civilian lives. The statement emphasized that counterterrorism measures are directed strictly at terrorist elements and not at any religious or ethnic group.
The Federal Government noted that terrorism, whether directed at Christians, Muslims, or any other community, poses a grave threat to national unity and regional stability. It stressed that Nigeria remains committed to defeating violent extremism through lawful, coordinated, and intelligence-driven approaches.
The ministry further explained that cooperation with the United States includes information exchange, operational coordination, and other forms of security assistance aimed at dismantling terrorist networks, cutting off financing channels, and disrupting recruitment and logistics pipelines.
Strengthening Nigeria’s intelligence institutions and operational capacity remains a central focus of the collaboration, as authorities seek sustainable solutions to insecurity across affected regions.
The statement, signed by the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, assured the public that engagements with international partners would continue through established diplomatic and security frameworks, with updates provided through official channels.
Newspot Nigeria reports that the development reflects broader international efforts to address terrorism and transnational security threats affecting West Africa and the Sahel region.
