The internal conversations within the Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) over the selection of its 2026 governorship candidate took a significant turn on Wednesday as leading aspirant, Omooba Dotun Babayemi, publicly reaffirmed his loyalty to the party’s leadership and its ultimate decision on who carries the party’s flag.
In a statement personally issued and e-signed, Babayemi addressed the ongoing debates and tensions within the party, noting that the process of choosing a candidate has naturally placed the Osun APC under increased scrutiny. He revealed that he has toured 299 out of the 332 wards across the state, engaging members and promoting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda.
Babayemi emphasised that throughout his tour, he consistently made it clear that the party is supreme and that he remains committed to whatever final decision the leadership makes regarding the 2026 governorship race. According to him, both the national and state leadership of the APC, under President Bola Tinubu’s guidance, have been working tirelessly in recent days to resolve emerging issues and present a united front.
“The leadership of our party has been busy resolving the issues cropping up, with a view to reaching a workable resolution that will leave our party united and able to regain power in Osun come 2026,” he stated.
Reaffirming his loyalty, Babayemi declared that he is ready to abide by any resolution reached concerning the party’s ticket. He stressed that restoring good governance to Osun State is a priority far greater than any individual aspiration. “I restate my commitment to the ideals of the Progressive. The actualization of our shared goals supersedes any individual desires,” he added.
He concluded by praying for divine guidance for party leaders as they take critical decisions ahead of the 2026 contest, signalling his continued alignment with the APC’s broader strategic direction as the countdown intensifies.
