…reassures residents on road repairs, applauds Acting VC over Law Faculty accreditation

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has directed government appointees, contractors, and stakeholders to ensure that all benefits and opportunities they receive from the administration are shared meaningfully with the people at the grassroots. He said this will help strengthen community engagement, deepen the sense of belonging, and promote a more equitable society across the state.

The Governor issued the directive during a special Sunday Service at the All Nations Christian Ministry International (ANCMI) in Eket, where he explained that the recent statewide Ward meetings were designed to reconnect governance with grassroots communities. He commended Local Government Chairmen and party leaders for coordinating the exercise effectively and announced that another round of grassroots engagement will take place in December.

“If this administration is benefitting you in one way or the other, make sure you share this benevolence with people in your villages for them to also feel the impact of this Government,” he said.

Governor Eno further reassured residents that all failed portions of roads across the state have been assessed for intervention as soon as the dry season begins. He appealed for patience, especially from residents in Uyo metropolis, emphasizing that the rainy season has delayed ongoing repairs. He also disclosed plans to install solar-powered streetlights across Uyo and other major areas to enhance security and strengthen the state’s tourism profile.

At the Akwa Ibom State University (AKSU), Ikot Akpaden, the Governor—who served as Special Guest at the 12th Valedictory/Award Service of the Chapel of Praise for the 2024/2025 graduating class—charged students to build unshakeable character, describing it as the foundation of lasting success. Addressing the graduands, he stressed that academic excellence must be matched with strong values, integrity, creativity, and commitment.

“You can know all you know which I encourage you to, but if you have bad character, everything you know means nothing,” he told the students. He encouraged them to adopt an aspirational mindset and deploy their knowledge in ways that create value in a world defined by service and innovation.

Governor Eno, who is the Visitor to the university, also commended the Acting Vice Chancellor, Prof. Otoabasi Akpan, for his exemplary leadership, particularly the recent accreditation of the Law Faculty by the National Universities Commission. He described the achievement as a testament to Prof. Akpan’s dedication and administrative excellence.

Prof. Akpan said the Governor’s presence was a moment of pride for the university, adding that his participation in the event affirmed the administration’s commitment to nurturing academic excellence. He expressed gratitude for the support AKSU has received under Governor Eno’s leadership and pledged continued efforts to strengthen the institution.

Speaking on behalf of the graduands, Emmanuel Justin Jimmy thanked the Governor for honouring them, calling his presence a rare privilege. The Chaplain of the Chapel of Praise, Rev. Otobong Umoren, also expressed appreciation, describing the Governor’s attendance as a special blessing to the 2025 valedictory ceremony.

Both events drew large gatherings of worshippers, students, university leaders, political stakeholders, and members of the State Executive Council.
