ICPC urges Niger state workers to uphold integrity, accountability

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has urged staff of the Niger State Ministry of Works and Infrastructural Development to prioritize transparency and accountability in discharge of their duties.

The Resident Anti-Corruption Commissioner for Niger State, Mr. Kennedy Ebhotemen made this call during a courtesy visit to the ministry in Minna.

He emphasized that public officers must avoid corruption, noting that the Ministry’s role in the state’s development makes it crucial for staff to be transparent and professional.

The ICPC Commissioner observed that corruption undermines development and destroys public trust, and therefore, the Commission is committed to eradicating corrupt practices in the society.

He stated that, “the ICPC’s mission is to build a public service culture rooted in honesty and discipline. Public officers must keep away from corruption in all its forms.”

Ebhotemen also advised that companies handling government projects must be monitored to ensure compliance with contract terms and value for public funds.

“Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) must strengthen internal monitoring mechanisms to track the progress of projects and ensure transparency in procurement and implementation,” he added.

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Quantity Surveyor Hassan Baba Estu, in his response, appreciated the ICPC team for the enlightenment session, while assuring of the Ministry’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and effective service delivery.

“Our Ministry remains committed to transparency, accountability, and effective service delivery, which are fundamental to good governance and sustainable development,” Estu noted.

He appealed to the ICPC to regularly invite staff of the Ministry to participate in its anti-corruption workshops and training programmes to deepen their understanding of ethical conduct in public service.
