Abia State’s political scene has again come alive following a strong rebuttal from Chief (Dr.) Emeka Charles Kalu, a national political leader and Abia North senatorial aspirant, to recent comments made by the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu, about the performance of Governor Alex Otti.
Chief Kalu, in his reaction, described the Deputy Speaker’s criticism as “a bit excessive,” emphasizing that the focus in Abia should be on unity and continuity of good governance rather than divisive commentary.
“With all due respect to our Honourable Deputy Speaker, your recent comment came across as excessive. While we welcome passionate contributions, what Abia needs most now is unity and focus on delivering the real dividends of democracy to our people,” Kalu stated.
He praised Governor Otti as a “miracle-working Governor” whose administration has transformed Abia State within just two years in office. “Our miracle-working Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has truly shown capacity and leadership. Abia State has been transformed from what it used to be — only a blind man would say this God-sent Governor isn’t doing enough,” Kalu declared.
Highlighting key achievements in road construction, healthcare, education, and infrastructure, Kalu said the evidence of Otti’s success is visible across the state. “Let’s give credit to whom it is due. Governor Otti has performed tremendously well across all sectors. One thing is clear — come 2027, there’s no vacancy in Abia Government House. Only those blind to progress will continue to play politics with the obvious transformation we are witnessing,” he said.
Beyond commendation, Chief Kalu also appealed to the Governor to address the electricity challenges affecting Bende town, noting that residents have suffered prolonged blackouts. “Your Excellency, the good people of Bende are pleading for your kind attention toward restoring electricity in our area. We have seen your transformational works across the state and are confident that with your touch, light will soon return to Bende,” he added.
Chief Kalu concluded with prayers for the Governor and reaffirmed his confidence in the administration’s ability to deliver on its promises of progress and hope for all Abians.
Political watchers say Chief Kalu’s remarks have intensified ongoing debates over Otti’s governance, pitting reform advocates against opposition critics. Yet, for many Abians, the results on the ground continue to speak louder than politics.
