In the 1970s, Dundee United FC of Scotland toured Nigeria for pre-season matches against top local clubs such as Enugu Rangers, Stationery Stores, Mighty Jets of Jos, Bendel Insurance, and Benin Vipers. Nigerians, holding European clubs in awe, placed heavy bets, convinced Dundee United would easily defeat our homegrown teams.

But the shock was historic. The so-called mighty Dundee United lost four out of five matches, including a humiliating 4–1 thrashing by Stationery Stores and a 2–0 defeat by Enugu Rangers. Overnight, the word Dundee became synonymous with foolishness in Nigerian slang—a reputation so enduring that music star Simi later referenced it in her hit line: “I no be Dundee, I no be fool.”

Today, Osun APC has proudly earned that Dundee badge.

Just days ago, Osun APC flooded the media with claims that local government funds had been released to their so-called “Yes-or-No” chairmen—appeal court-sacked impostors born from the most ridiculous local government election in Nigeria’s history. Lest we forget, in 2022, under their ousted governor, Gboyega Oyetola, APC Osun conducted an election without party logos, in outright violation of the Electoral Act. Ballot papers carried only Yes or No. Till today, the people of Osun mock those impostors as the Yes-or-No Chairmen.

Like Nigerians who once staked fortunes on Dundee United, only to be embarrassed, APC Osun’s chieftains and new decampees have been celebrating prematurely—some even pricing luxury cars in anticipation of looting grassroots funds. But as I assured stakeholders, no commercial bank will ever release money to unauthorized signatories. That assurance was vindicated when the CBN’s own lawyer denied releasing a kobo of local government funds to the illegal chairmen.

APC Osun is the Dundee United of our time—loud, boastful, but destined for defeat. They managed a lone “1–0” in Iragbiji during the 2023 Assembly elections, but like Dundee, their legacy is defined by heavy losses.

Meanwhile, Governor Ademola Nurudeen Jackson Adeleke remains the true Nigerian local champion—the modern Stationery Stores who humbled the European-styled arrogance of APC first in 2018 (before remote control magic intervened), then decisively again in 2022. By prioritizing workers’ welfare, driving infrastructure expansion, and transforming Osun into a mini-Dubai, Governor Adeleke has positioned PDP as the unstoppable grassroots force. Come 2026/2027, PDP will once again crush APC Dundee United with a resounding 4–0 victory.

History is clear. Osun APC is Dundee United. Osun PDP is the people’s Stationery Stores. And history will repeat itself.
