ABIA STATE, NIGERIA — The Foundation for Environmental Rights, Advocacy & Development (FENRAD) has unveiled a new civic-centered radio programme titled “Security, Civic Space & the People”, set to air weekly across Abia State and the Southeast region of Nigeria. The initiative aims to strengthen democratic accountability, improve community-security relations, and protect civic freedoms in an era of rising insecurity and shrinking democratic space.
Broadcasting live every Wednesday from 11am to 12noon on SUN FM 91.9 Aba, the programme will feature a mix of expert interviews, legal awareness segments, community voices, and live call-ins to enable direct public engagement with issues affecting governance, security, and human rights.
“We’re creating a space where citizens, security agencies, civil society, and policymakers can listen, learn, and lead together,” said Nelson Nnanna Nwafor, Executive Director of FENRAD. “At a time when civic space is shrinking and insecurity rising, this programme will offer a voice to the people and a channel for solutions.”
This radio series continues FENRAD’s Security Playbook and Civic Future Project, with support from the Fund for Global Human Rights, the Action Group on Free Civic Space (AGFCS), and Spaces for Change (S4C). It reflects FENRAD’s enduring commitment to defending civic freedoms, advancing police and justice-sector reforms, and empowering communities to drive grassroots solutions.
