Africa Theatre world epitomized by the Nollywood has been plunged into mourning following the thievery of Mr Death who snatched away Dr Columbus Isoranga from the stage.
The Okirika-native Dr Columbus was a phenomenal stage actor and academic who taught theatre arts at the Department of Theatre Studies, Rivers State University.
Those who knew Columbus as a Movie actor and producer did not know the fire power which ran in the veins of this great actor who mesmerized audiences in his hey days as a stage actor.
Isoranga, Wale Ogunyemi and Jimi Solanke stole the show at the first All Nigeria Conference of Playwrights, Actors, Theatre teachers and Theatre Owners held in Port Harcourt in 1975.
In the audience were the likes of the Doyen of drama and performing arts in Africa, Chief Hubert Ogunde, Africa’s first Professor of Theatre Arts, Professor Yinka Adedeji, Playwright Professor Ola Rotimi, Professor Dapo Adelugba, Professor Pepper Carke, Professor Mrs Ebun Clarke, Professor Femi Osofisan, Theatre entrepreneur and Actor Chief Duro Ladipo, Professor Zulu Sofola, Paul Nworika, Ken Saro Wiwa
and several other distinguished icons of performing arts who clapped and clapped until their palms became sore!
