Minimum wage: Ekiti Govt inaugurates committee to negotiate with labour

The Ekiti State governor, Abiodun Oyebanji, has raised a 13-member negotiation committee as the state government kickstarts meetings with organised labour preparatory to the implementation of the minimum wage payment in the state.

A statement in Ado Ekiti by the Special Adviser, Media, to the Governor, Yinka Oyebode, said the decision to set up the committee was sequel to the signing of the minimum wage law by President Bola Tinubu on July 30, 2024.

According to Oyebode, the negotiation committee was comprised of government officials and the leadership of the organised labour in the state.

The members of the negotiation committee who are government officials include Dr Folakemi Olomojobi, Head of Service (as chairperson); Akintunde Oyebode, Commissioner for Finance; K. Faromiluyi, Special Advisor on Labour Matter; Mrs Titilayo Olayinka, Accountant General.

Others are ⁠Bamise Sunday Julius, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Justice; Oluwadare Jolumo, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Finance; and Mrs Janet Ajibola, Permanent Secretary, Office of Establishment and Service Matters.

Committee members from the organised labour include Olufemi Ajoloko, Chairman, Joint Negotiation Council; Olatunde Kolapo, Chairman, Nigeria Labour Congress; and Sola Adigun, Chairman, Trade Union Congress.

Others are Yetunde Emmanuel, Secretary, Joint Negotiation Council; Dr Israel Taiwo, Secretary, Nigeria Labour Council; and Yemi Peters, Secretary, Trade Union Congress.

The statement added that the first meeting of the committee is slated for Wednesday, September 4, 2024.
