The Special Adviser to the Niger State Governor, Muhammed Bago, on Private Public Partnership, PPP, Jonathan Vatsa has hinged the failure of past projects executed under the initiative to selfish and personal interests in the state.

Vatsa stated this during an interview with journalists in Minna, explaining that instead of those involved in handling the projects to work for the interest of the state, they were promoting their interests resulting in their failure.

The Governor’s aide who was a former publicity secretary of All Progressives Congress, APC and Commissioner for Information, Culture and Strategy noted that the PPP is a gold mine and if handled properly would propel the state towards the path of growth and development.

He said,” Some people in the state who have limited understanding of this, don’t believe in the Governor’s dreams of a ‘New Niger.’ They said the Governor has tall dreams for the state that depend majorly on the federation Account for funds. Please, if you don’t believe it, don’t criticize his dreams because it is possible. One of the areas he is going to drive his ambition is through the PPP initiative. Today, globally, various governments are going into PPP to finance new projects even the federal government is going into PPP to carry out projects”.

He said measures have been adopted to ensure that Private Public Partnership projects embarked upon by the present administration do not fail as happened to many of the projects executed in the past.

“We have studied and discovered the reasons why past PPP projects by Governor Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu’s administration failed and observed that it was due to selfishness and promotion of personal interest by those in charge. If we must succeed, we must remove personal interest, remove selfishness in PPP,” the governor’s aide on PPP maintained.

Vatsa further revealed that a total of six companies have so far applied for partnership in various areas such as renewable energy, transportation, and agriculture amongst others, adding that ” all these companies are asking from us is to give them guarantee and land to start their projects”.
