The Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) has condemned the killing of George Sibo, a middle-aged man who was reportedly shot in the head at the Governorship Election Collation Centre in Brass Local Government Area Headquarters.

In a statement issued on Monday and signed by the Spokesperson, Bedford Berefa, the IYC described the incident as an unfortunate, senseless, and unreasonable attack on an unarmed youth by political thugs.

Newspot reports that Sibo, popularly known as “Kobo-Kobo,” served as an aide to the Brass Local Government Chairman, Hanson Alabo-Karika.

The statement reads, “The Ijaw Youth Council vehemently condemns the recent surge of violence in the Brass Local Government Area. The incident, marked by a fatal attack, is believed to have been orchestrated by purported loyalists to a specific party candidate.

“As a body, we are deeply concerned about the escalating political violence, as such actions severely threaten the democratic process and the overall well-being of the state.

“It’s distressing to witness the loss of life due to political interests. Violence has no place in a democratic society. A lost life equals a lost generation, and a crucial part of the Ijaw future has been lost unnecessarily.

“We demand an immediate and comprehensive investigation into the incident. Law enforcement agencies must ensure that those responsible for the violence face the full force of the law. Perpetrators of such atrocious acts must be held accountable to preserve the sanctity of our electoral process and protect the lives of our people.

“We appeal to political actors to prioritize peaceful engagement and refrain from actions that could incite violence.”
