Mikel Arteta is hopeful Bukayo Saka isn’t too badly hurt after the Arsenal star hobbled off the pitch during their Champions League victory on Wednesday night.

Saka played a starring role in Arsenal’s 2-0 victory over Sevilla at the Emirates, assisting Leandro Trossard’s opener before scoring himself.

But toward the end of the game, the winger rolled his ankle upon landing and received treatment on the pitch.

He attempted to carry on but couldn’t, hobbling off in the 85th minute with Jakub Kiwior replacing him.

However, the 22-year-old didn’t go down the tunnel to the treatment room after getting subbed, instead he went straight to the bench before completing a lap of honour after the full-time whistle.

That sight came as much relief to Arsenal fans, as well as England manager Gareth Southgate who was at the Emirates ahead of announcing his squad for the November internationals on Thursday.

And thankfully for them, Arteta has confirmed that his talisman appears to just be suffering from a knock, though it’s unclear whether Takehiro Tomiyasu, who came off at half-time, has picked up an injury of his own.

The manager told TNT Sports: ‘Takehiro Tomiyasu was feeling something so we didn’t want to take a risk. Bukayo Saka, it’s a knock.

‘Hopefully they are good because we are missing some players.’

The Gunners currently have Thomas Partey, Gabriel Jesus, Emile Smith Rowe, Eddie Nketiah, Martin Odegaard and Jurrien Timber in the treatment room.

In his post-match press conference, Arteta added: ‘At the end he [Saka] was uncomfortable to carry on so hopefully it’s not big. I want to believe that he will be OK.

‘They’re [Odegaard and Nketiah] racing against the clock to be fit. They tried their best to be fit tonight. It wasn’t possible. We will try again against Burnley and we will see.’

Arsenal host Burnley on Saturday before the international break, after which the face off against Brentford on 25th November.
