Jamie Carragher believes Manchester City are still the team to beat in the Premier League title race after their comprehensive 3-0 away victory against Manchester United.

Pep Guardiola’s side romped to a comfortable derby-day victory courtesy of a brace from Erling Haaland and one from Phil Foden as the reigning league champions piled further pressure on Erik ten Hag.

Having recently lost twice in a row – against Wolves and Arsenal – for just the third time under the Spanish tactician, City have bounced back with wins against Brighton and United to move them back up to third and just two points of Tottenham at the top of the table.

Sunday’s win at Old Trafford may well have been their best performance of the season and former Premier League defender Jamie Carragher believes City are hitting form at the right time and delivered a timely reminder of their quality.

‘I’ve got the feeling with City that I had when I was coming up against Gary [Neville] and Roy [Keane], where even if Manchester United in years go by weren’t top at this stage, it’s almost if they are getting ready for the second half of the season,’ he told Sky Sports.

‘That today, a big game, put on a show to let people know how good they are, they are still the team to beat. I think they’ll win the league comfortably this season, I do!’

City have won the league title for three successive years and now go in search of becoming the first side to win the Premier League in four consecutive years.

They will face a steady challenge – most likely from perennial rivals Liverpool and last season’s challengers Arsenal – but Carragher believes that both those sides won’t last the duration.

‘I don’t think Liverpool are quite ready to mount a serious challenge,’ Carragher added, speaking about his former club.

‘Arsenal, of course did [challenge] last season, and even though they’ve made a good start, I don’t think they are playing as well as this time last season, so I don’t think everything is 100 percent there.’

Ange Postecoglou’s Spurs remain the side at the top of the table having extended their unbeaten league start to the season with a 2-0 win against Crystal Palace on Friday.

Despite their impressive start under the Australian coach, there is an air of scepticism surrounding their title-winning credentials, with Gary Neville one such pundit who believes the north London club won’t win the league.

‘I don’t think they have a good enough squad or are a good enough team to win the league,’ he said on Sky Sports.
