The Chairman of the Niger State chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Idris Lafene, has said that Labour will compel Niger State Government to pay N200,000 if it is passed into law.

The Labour leader made this known chatting with The PUNCH  saying the state woulf have to obey the law.

He pointed out that it is not a question of whether they can afford it or not stressing that if passed into law, the government will be compelled to obey the law.

“There are laws, if the bill is passed into law, that is when we’ll pressurise. But you know, I cannot speak for the government. And we know that if it is a law, the law has to be obeyed because laws are compulsory.

“I said there are laws whether they can afford it or not is not the issue, if it is passed into it is binding,” he said.

He also affirmed that the national body of labour is carrying the states along in their negotiations

“We are carried along. Are we not part of the national body of the NLC?” he queried.

The Chief Press Secretary to the Niger State Governor, Mr Ibahim Bologi, who reacted to whether the state government could afford N200,000 said when they get to that bridge the state will know how to cross it.

“The negotiation is presently at the national, it may be adjusted with the states,” he said.

He urged that the newly appointed commissioner of information would be in a position to comment on the issues after her first Executive Council meeting.
