Nine candidates that contested in the just concluded House of Assembly elections on the platform of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, have challenged their arch-rival the All Progressives Congress, APC, and Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, in court.
The NNPP candidates have filed their petitions before the Kano Governorship, National and state House of Assembly Election Petition Tribunal sitting at Miller road court complex.
The petitioners have also prayed the tribunal to grant their request for a motion ex parte.
The applicants have asked the court for a motion ex parte allowing them to inspect the materials used by INEC during the conduct of the state House of Assembly election, held on March 18 2023.
Their request also borders on seeking the permission of the court to proceed with the fulfilment of all necessary court processes in relation to pursuing their matter.
Furthermore, the NNPP stalwarts are in court to challenge issues they foresee to be in violation of the provisions of the Electoral Act 2022.
The NNPP candidates who have ignited the court case against INEC and APC are Aminu Saidu Ungogo, Isiyiaku Ali Danja, Abdullahi Ali Wudil Manager, Kabiru Getso Haruna, Mahmud Tajo Gaya, Abdullahi Iliyasu, Musa Adamu Ahmad, Aminu Ibrahim Dambatta, Abdu Ibrahim Madaris.
Our correspondent reports that the motion ex parte were all filed before the court on 4 April 2023.
