The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State has asked the Nigeria Police not to succumb to pressures in its investigation of the killing of Gani Dele, its member in Ila local government area of the state.
The party while issuing the charge to Peter Abayomi, the Commissioner of Police in charge of election, also warned that the people of the state would not tolerate any cover up attempt of the murder.
Dele, a member of the PDP in Ila-Orangun was allegedly shot dead by a key member of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Newspot had reported that the Osun APC in a statement on Monday had called for an investigation into the matter and the subsequent release of Adeniji, its Organising Secretary, who is being held over the murder.
Adeniji was arrested by the personnel of the Nigeria Police and the DSS.
Responding to the tragic incident, the PDP in a statement by its Caretaker Chairman, Dr Akindele Adekunle, said Gani’s unfortunate killing was another pointer to the danger that its members and Osun people face in the hands of the APC in the state.
“I call on the Police and other security agencies to wake up to the reality of the APC criminal nature and take immediate firm actions to ensure that every killer of PDP members is apprehended and brought to justice.
“Just as we experienced with Wole in Ifetedo two days ago, his only crime was being a PDP member. This is totally unacceptable and we want the deliberate targeting of our members by the APC just for their political beliefs to stop.
“We therefore reiterate our call on the Police to declare the APC candidate for Ife South Constituency, Najeem Oyewumi, wanted.
“Any attempt to shield Najeem Oyewumi or anyone responsible for the heinous crime of killing PDP members across Osun state will not be acceptable to us and the generality of Osun people.”
Meanwhile, the Osun APC in a statement on Tuesday by Tajudeen Lawal, its Acting Chairman, accused the state Governor, Ademola Adeleke and the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of riding on the blood of the people of Osun to fraudulently win the House of Assembly election.
The statement signed by Kola Olabisi, the Osun APC Director of Media and Information, described the election as a charade because it was devoid of a level playground.
“The election was heavily militarized by Adeleke who used the Army, the Air force, the police who were leading some hoodlums loyal to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to attack, oppress, intimidate and wilfully disenfranchise some of the APC members and supporters from voting during the election across the state.
“The story from Ijesaland was pathetic as the PDP thugs led by the statutory security officers were openly attacking and chasing away the members of the APC and supporters away from their polling units,” the APC alleged.
