Ahead of the formal declaration of the official result of the governorship election in Abia State by the Independent National Electoral Commission ( INEC), the gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Professor Greg Ibe has congratulated Alex Otti on his well-deserved victory at the yet-to-be concluded poll in the state.
This was contained in a release personally signed, and made available to Newspot on monday in Umuahia, the state capital.
Ibe, the founder and the chancellor of Gregory University, Uturu in Abia state, also applauded Otti for his consistency so far in the battle to liberate Abia State from the shackles of underdevelopment.
He also enjoined the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to leave no stone unturned in their efforts to solve the current impasse by eliminating from the ongoing process of collation of results, the obvious cases of electoral fraud, and by so doing ensure substantial compliance to statutory provisions of the electoral act, especially, as it pertains to conduct of election using BVAS machines.
Newspot correspondent monitoring yet-to-be concluded gubernatorial election in Abia State earlier reported that INEC had in a statement ordered for the suspension of results collation from Obingwa LGA of the state.
The INEC had in a statement signed by Barr. Festus Okoye, its National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, said the order was issued after the Commission met on Monday 20th March 2023 and reviewed the conduct of the Governorship and State Assembly elections held nationwide on Saturday 18th March 2023.
Arising from the meeting, the Commission took the decision to suspend forthwith further collation of the Governorship election results in some parts of Abia (specifically, Obingwa).
According to the statement, INEC office in Obingwa Local Government Area was invaded by thugs yesterday Sunday 19th March 2023 and the commission’s officials were held hostage in relation to the collation of results from the Local Government Area.
