Roy Keane feels there is a ‘huge question mark’ over Manchester United striker Wout Weghorst and believes his January arrival is ‘gamble’.

United have brought in the Netherlands international on a loan deal until the end of the season following his heroics against Argentina at the World Cup in Qatar, as he came off the bench to score twice and take their quarter-final to penalties.

Weghorst had been on loan at Besiktas this term from parent club Burnley – registering eight goals and four assists across 16 Turkish league games – but the 30-year-old ended that move early in order to head to Old Trafford instead.

United legend Keane is unsure about United’s decision to bring in Weghorst, though, as he shared his thoughts prior to Sunday’s clash against Arsenal.

‘It’s a bit of a gamble but it’s a loan deal, I can see why the manager (Erik ten Hag) has done it,’ Keane told Sky Sports.

‘He’s going to be a good team player but whether he’ll get the goals is a huge question mark.’

Keane did, however, acknowledge that United’s Marcus Rashford has the ability to hurt teams and predicted him to make an impact against Arsenal before his first-half goal at the Emirates.

Rashford has been in incredible form, with his opening strike against the Gunners meaning the England international has now scored nine goals in all competitions since the World Cup ended, the most of any player in Europe’s big five leagues.

‘What we have seen from United is that they don’t need to play well to get results as they have such quality, Keane added.

‘With the quality of Marcus Rashford on the counter, then they can hurt Arsenal.’

Keane also feels that United should be targeting a top-four finish this season rather than a title challenge and says they can win a trophy.

The Red Devils have not lifted any major silverware since 2017 when they won the Europa League under Jose Mourinho.

‘I think Manchester United should be looking at top four and maybe winning a cup whereas Arsenal have had such a great start, they have more a realistic chance of winning the title,’ Keane said.

‘United have to win today to be in the race. There is a long way to go.’
