The Accord Party presidential candidate, Prof. Christopher Imumolen, has advanced reasons why Nigeria is among the poorest countries in the world.
He identified lack of opportunities, youth unemployment and poor education among others as factors responsible for the country’s poor rating.
The accord presidential candidate made this known during his live broadcast to unveil his election master plan, according to a statement on Monday.
Speaking on how he intends to tackle the country’s dire economic situation if elected president in February, Imumolen said, “Economic hardship (in Nigeria) is at its apex and the cause is multifaceted. There are so many reasons a country will plunge into poverty.
“Today, Nigeria is maybe the leading poverty capital of the world and the major reason is opportunities. Nigerian youths do not have opportunities for jobs. Nigerian youths are not properly educated. We need to reform our educational system.”
The academic who spoke on critical areas of the country’s economy, said to achieved the desired results, the next president must take important decision to turn the nation’s economic fortunes around.
He lamented the abysmal depths the fortunes of the country had sunk in virtually every area of the economic development index and vowed to effect a sharp turnaround if elected.
“My party, Accord and I are driven by the passion to change the narrative of inept leadership that has stunted our growth as a country for decades,” Imumolen said.
“We believe in the Nigerian project and are supremely committed to the vision of seeing the country and it’s people grow out of penury, darkness and joblessness by offering quality leadership that will restore confidence and hope in them,” he added.
