Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaifi says the club still want to sign Manchester United star Marcus Rashford and will attempt to snap him up on a free transfer in January.
PSG are long-term admirers of the England international and discussed a move to the French capital with Rashford’s representatives during the summer.
It followed a disappointing 2021-22 season for the 25-year-old where his future at Old Trafford was uncertain.
The academy graduate has since enjoyed a superb return to form under Erik ten Hag this term, scoring eight goals and reclaiming his place in the England squad.
Rashford’s current contract expires in the summer of 2023 but United have the option to extend that by a further 12 months.
But should that extension not be activated, foreign clubs will be free to discuss terms with the player with PSG ready to begin negotiations.
‘Again, he is another player that is really amazing and for free, to have Rashford for free, every club would run after him, definitely,’ Al-Khelaifi told Sky Sports, confirming PSG’s previous attempts to sign the United star.
‘Definitely, there is no hiding it, we spoke before on the interest but the moment was not a good moment for both sides.
‘Maybe, summer why not? But today if he is a free agent we can talk to him directly but we are not going to talk to him now.
‘Let him focus on the World Cup and after hopefully in January we will talk to him.’
Recent reports have claimed United are preparing to offer Rashford a new long-term deal on fresh terms.
Responding to PSG’s interest in the summer, he reiterated his desire to stay in Manchester and play for his boyhood club.
‘[I’m] 100 percent [committed]. For me that’s a non-negotiable,’ Rashford told Sky Sports in August.
‘The one thing that remains the same is your dedication and your commitment to training and the games. I feel like whatever the situation is I have to give 100 percent for myself, family, friends and the fans.
‘For me, I have always wanted to be at Manchester United for as long as possible and be competing for trophies at the club. Hopefully we can get back to doing that and it’s something that I’m definitely pushing to do.’
Rashford has enjoyed an impressive World Cup campaign in Qatar, scoring against Iran and adding another two this tally in the final group game against Wales.
Having started from the bench in the last 16 victory over Senegal, he will hope to reclaim his place in the starting XI for Saturday’s quarter-final showdown against France.
